Sylvester Takes Bad Habit To Win
At Young Guns Race:   April 11, 2013 Edition
The Advanced Auto Parts Monster Jam World Finals “Young Guns Shootout” debuted in 2012 and was created to put some of the best Monster Jam drivers, who have little or no Monster Jam World Finals experience, in a racing format to determine the Young Guns Shootout champion on the toughest Monster Jam track on the planet.
The 2013 Young Guns Shootout took place on Fri., Mar. 22 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada after its participants completed their qualifying runs the day before.
The 2013 field was comprised of A dozen Monster Jam trucks and drivers. The Young Guns Shootout winner would earn the 2013 Title and fill the last remaining spot in the prestigious field of 28 Monster Jam trucks that would compete for the World Finals Racing & Freestyle Championship the following night on Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium in front of a sold out crowd of more than 35,000 fans.
Boardman’s own, Joe Sylvester and his Bad Habit Monster truck, sponsored by KMC Wheels, Lincoln Electric, TorchMate and Komar Plumbing was placed against Razin’ Kane in Round 1, Wolverine in Round 2 and Titan in Round 3.
Sylvester successfully beat out the one independent and two Monster Jam corporate-owned trucks to be placed in the finals against the Monster Jam corporate-owned Iron Man.
The trucks were neck and neck down the straight-away stretch, coming out of Thunder Alley at 65 miles per hour. Sylvester turned the Bad Habit tight into the far lane corner and floored the 1500 horsepower Bad Habit over the final jump, half a second ahead of Iron Man. The win secured Joe the final spot in Saturday night’s Monster Jam World Finals Racing & Freestyle Championships.
“I am so thankful and so stoked,” said Sylvester during his Monster Jam interview after the race. “There were so many great Monster Jam trucks out there tonight. I can’t wait to get back out here!”
Sylvester’s parents, Kathy and Joseph Sylvester, Jr., his sister Krysta and his grandparents, Anna Marie and Joseph Sylvester, Sr., were all in attendance for this special and exciting win.
Joe went onto perform on Saturday night in both the racing and freestyle competitions and was crowned 2013 Young Guns Shootout Champion along with “Grave Digger: The Legend” as 2013 Racing Champion and “Maximum Destruction” as the 2013 Freestyle Champion.
