      Four persons will be on the November general elections ballot seeking two seats on the Boardman Township Board of Trustees; while four persons, including three incumbents will vie for three seats on the Boardman Board of Education, where an additional position is also on the ballot to fill an unexpired term.
      There will be two tax levies on the ballot, both renewals for current expenses for the Boardman Local School District.
      Seeking re-election to the post of Township Trustee is Thomas Costello, (a Republican); and Steve Yacovone,(a Republican), currently serving on the Board of Trustees after being appointed to the post earlier in year, will be on the ballot.
      Costello and Yacovone will face opposition from Matthew Gambrel,(a Democrat); and Cody McCormick, who has no reported party affiliation.
      Yacovone is currently holding the seat on the Board of Trustees, previously held by Brad Calhoun, who was named Fiscal Officer earlier this year following the resignation of longtime Fiscal Officer William D. Leicht.
      Calhoun,(now a Republican) is on the November ballot unopposed for election as Fiscal Officer.
      Seeking re-election to three seats on the Boardman Board of Education are Vickie Davis, and John Landers.
      Seeking the third seat (held by John Fryda who is not seeking re-election), are Boardman Township fireman R. Scott Murray and Kevin Haase.
      Also on the ballot unopposed is Tom Varley, who is currently serving in the Board of Education seat previously held by Frank Zetts who resigned from his seat last year.
      The Boardman Local School District’s tax levies on the November ballot include a 5.9 mill issue that raises some $4.239 million a year; and a 6-mill issue that raises $3.59 million annually.
      The 5.9 mill issue was first approved by the electorate in 1996; and the 6-mill issue first gained voter approval in 1991.
      The school levies were last on the ballot in Nov., 2020 when the electorate was told the measures are “two key pillars for our financial stability” and “at stake is $7.4 million in funding yearly for the Boardman Local Schools.”
      Mahoning County Issues
      Mahoning County will place two renewal tax issues on the ballot, a senior citizens 1-mill issue that raises $4.445 million annually; and a 3-mill issue that raises $12.69 million a year for the Board of Developmental Disabilities.
      Three seats will be on the ballot for the Educational Service Center of Mahoning County.
      Candidates include three incumbents, Suzanne Barbati, Jeff Good, and Richard Scarsella.
      They face opposition from Boardman native and current North Lima resident, Richard Ferenchak, and Shomore Irene Wright.
