As part of its programming activities for 2026, Boardman Park will place an increased focus on programs that support senior citizens, including a ‘Tech Thursdays’ series that will center on promoting scam awareness.
“I personally see this as an especially important topic as scammers continue to adapt creatively, targeting older adults in our community,” Mia Albaugh, community relations coordinator said about the Tech Thursdays.
The park district will also introduce new “Matters of Balance” classes that are designed for anyone who could benefit from additional support with balance, confidence and safe movement.
Events especially geared towards the senior citizen population will begin in March. They include---
•Lunch and Learn on Thurs., March 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lariccia Family Community Center.
The ‘Lunch & Learn’ series is a free educational program designed for older adults looking to stay informed, engaged and connected. Each session will feature a guest speaker from a trusted local organization who will share information on topics important to seniors including mental health, insurance, wellness and other resources that support healthy, independent living.
The Mar. 5 session will focus on common mental health topics, providing helpful insights and practical information in a relaxed, welcoming setting. While the program is free, space is limited and reservation are required. Space is limited to 60 persons.
•Senior Fun Day on Thurs., March 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lariccia Family Community Center. Fee is $2 and includes a guest speaker, lunch, exercise and bingo. Limited to 60 individuals.
•Matters of Balance on Thurs., March 30, 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Lariccia Family Community Center. Sponsored by Direction Home, the free classes are open to the public and designed for anyone who could benefit from additional support with balance, confidence and safe movement.
